Juliana Draper, RDN, LD
I am Juliana Draper, RDN, LD. I am the Dietetic Internship Program Administrative Coordinator at Oakwood University and have worked in the Nutrition & Dietetics Department since January 2016. I became an Oakwood student in 2011 in Nutrition & Dietetics and became a registered dietitian in 2016.
I have had type 1 diabetes for the last 41 years and have been involved with community activities promoting diabetes awareness for the past 15 years. I have a special interest in providing nutrition counseling for carbohydrate counting, label reading, meal planning, stocking a healthy pantry and shopping smart at the grocery store.
I have lived in Madison County, Alabama all my life and have a wonderful husband of 24 years and a daughter who is 20 years old. Our family likes to spend time with family and play with our three dogs, Tynee, Brutus and Bandit.
I love the Oakwood family and look forward to speaking to the students and faculty about healthy choices.

FAQs
Questions and Answers about Calories from CDC website:
Q: I’ve heard it is more important to worry about carbohydrates than calories. Is this true?
A: By focusing only on carbohydrates, you can still eat too many calories. Also, if you reduce the variety of foods in your diet, you could exclude vital nutrients and not be able to stay on the diet over time.
Q: Does it matter how many calories I eat as long as I’m maintaining an active lifestyle?
A: While physical activity is a vital part of weight control, so is controlling the number of calories you eat. If you take in more calories than you use, you will still gain weight.
- What other factors besides diet and behavior contribute to overweight and obesity?
A: Environment and genetic factors may add to causes of overweight and obesity. For more information, see Other Factors in Weight Gain.
